Frequently Asked Questions
The following list contains most of the commonly asked questions about our society. If there is anything else that you would like to know then please use our Contact Us form. |
How can I join?
- First fill in an application form (see the Forms link on the menu)
You will then be invited to audition for the society.
- When auditioning you will be required to sing and perform a monologue of your choice.
You may bring a backing track as we do not provide a pianist for auditions.
If you are a dancer, we would welcome you showing us your talents.
It is likely that you will be required to undertake a brief improvisation.
- Auditions are held in August and September each year for our season intake.
How old do you have to be?
- You must be 13 years of age by the opening night of our production - this is because child performance licensing states that all children under the age of 13 must leave the theatre by 10pm following a performance.
- You must not have reached the age of 20.
When is the next production?
- Our productions are usually around the 15th of June each year.
- Our next show is High School Musical on 21st - 25th June 2011.
How much does it cost to join?
- The annual membership fee for 2010 - 2011 is £30, payable in advance
- We insist that everyone in the CYT is also a member of the Concordia Theatre Association.
The £30 CYT fee includes the cost of this membership.
When do auditions take place?
- Auditions are held in August each year, the number of spaces that we offer depend on the production being put on, and the number of members who have left the previous year
What do we look for from our members?
- All members are required to participate wholeheartedly in all workshops, events, rehearsals and annual production.
- Timekeeping is essential; continued lateness and absenteeism is frowned upon and will likely result in you being given a "strike"
- We operate a "three strikes and you're out" rule
- Commitment to the Concordia Youth Theatre
- Honesty and an openness towards others
- Respect for the Concordia Theatre, staff, patrons and the building
- To perform to your highest standard, always giving maximum effort
- Whilst you must have a modicum of talent in singing, dancing or acting, we prefer to take those that will offer continued commitment and a dedicated approach to the society.
How is the Youth Theatre set up?
- The CYT is committee run with Chairman, Treasurer and 3 committee members.
- Two representatives from the membership (male and female) also join the committee as senior members.
How are members protected?
- The CYT takes very seriously the safety and protection of all members.
- Every member of the committee has undertaken an enhanced CRB check and are licensed chaperones.
- Key members of the production team, backstage helpers, dressing room staff and support personnel are also CRB checked with many also being licensed chaperones.
